Injectables: How to choose!

Are you ready to turn back the clock and look years younger?!

The first step to take is to research your options! The information provided below is a basic summary of what injections are and which type of injections are best for different concerns. Let’s Get Started!!

Most of us have heard of “Botox” but do you know what Botox is or what it is used for? Botox is just one specific brand of botulinum neurotoxin aka Neurorelaxer. Neurorelaxer is just a simpler way to say it prevents contractions in the muscle. The truth is there are many brands of Neurorelaxers out there and although the name Botox is most commonly used, that does not mean the other FDA approved options such as Xeomin or Dysport are not just as good! At The Preserve Med Spa, we use the brand Xeomin. This specific brand of Neurorelaxer does not contain the preservative compound that Botox does so that makes this product more of a pure form of Neurorelaxer.

Xeomin is used to soften and diminish fine lines caused from facial expressions. That doesn’t mean your face won’t be able to show expression or your face will be frozen! This means the harsh lines that appear when you make different expressions (ex: laugh, smile, frown, surprised, or concerned) are softened. These common emotions unfortunately can cause fine lines known as the elevens between the eyebrows, the wrinkles in the forehead, and the crows feet around the eyes. The results of this treatment can last on average 2.5-4 months long depending on the person and their metabolic rate.

Fillers on the other hand will usually last in the body on average 8-15 months depending on which filler is needed for your problem area. When it comes to fillers, it is important to know the different compositions. There are a few different types of fillers some using temporary or permanent materials used to fill lines. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Belotero, Revanesse Versa, Restylane, and Juvederm are better for volumizing lips, correcting lines above the lips, and nasalabial folds (laugh lines). For areas that that need more structure, like the cheek bones or jaw line, it is best to use a calcium based filler such as Radiesse.

Simply put, expression lines are best softened with Neurorelaxer and deeper wrinkles that remain when the face is expressionless are best softened with filler to add volume to those areas.
