Botanics in Skin Care

SEE THE CHANGES PLANTS CAN MAKE

Olive Leaf Extract

One of the trends we are seeing in the beauty industry is the use of botanical and organic ingredients in skincare. But is it really worth all the hype?

The use of botanical ingredients date back centuries. Ingredients such as chamomile, olive leaf, and mushroom can soothe, transform and protect the skin. Honey is one of the most common "all natural" ingredient we see on the market today for it's hydrating and anti-bacterial properties, cucumber for it's anti-inflammatory benefits as well as avocado to firm and moisturize sensitive skin.

But before you go out and slather your skin with wonderful products from your kitchen, know this:

Not all botanicals are created equally.

It's not only the ingredients that matter. In order for your skin to see the desired outcome, (fight the signs of aging, increase hydration, address acne, reduce unwanted pigmentation, etc) the ingredients must be formulated in a way that your skin can absorb it. Epionce Skin Care teaches us that "to best utilize the therapeutic benefits of ingredients, a delivery system must be able to bring these active ingredients to the {targeted cell receptors within the} skin to have a measurable benefit. This system allows the ingredients to effectively preform their function in the skin." Plus the ingredients must remain stable enough to keep their activity within the skin once they are formulated. The formulation of all of the ingredients also play a huge factor into the end result as well. Mixing two separate ingredients often can change the final outcome. Just think of hydrogen and oxygen. Separately, they are gasses, however when combined together with the appropriate conditions and specific amounts will yield our favorite liquid, water!

Pharmaceutical-grade botanicals truly harness the natural power of plants, along with the clinical formulations to increase the efficacy and therapeutic benefits of these amazing ingredients. And here are a few of our favorites:

Chamomile Flower Extract is a highly active antioxidant which helps protect against the visual effects of photo-damage while providing calming properties.

Kakadu Plum Extract is an Australian super fruit that yields 100 times the vitamin c found in an orange. It helps boost and brighten skin luminosity while diminishing the appearance of flushing and uneven skin tone.

Olive Leaf Extract is a natural antioxidant extract that helps nurture and provide visual support for blemish-prone and compromised skin.

White Willow Bark Extract (a natural source of salicylic acid) exfoliates the skin and deep cleansing pores.

Sugar Cane Extract (a natural source of glycolic acid) gently exfoliates the skin for a renewed complexion.

Mushroom Extract helps to brighten the overall complexion while minimizing the appearance of uneven skin tone.

Bilberry Extract (source of lactic acid) naturally exfoliates and moisturizes skin. Centella Asiatica is a powerful antioxidant that diminishes the appearance of premature aging.

Norwegian Kelp Extract diminishes the appearances of both new and existing areas of uneven skin tone while working.
